#5954 — Virgin Media Lost Messages - Thanks

SubjectVirgin Media Lost Messages - Thanks
Message-ID<46a8e2b552.barrygray@virginmedia.com>
Thanks to everyone who replied. I made some changes inside My Virgin
Media to the POP and IMAP settings and then to Outlook Express, and lo
and behold up to 100 e-mails that had been floating in cyberspace
appeared in a new IMAP folder on my PC!

Plus about 7000 other e-mails which I had already downloaded. Next
Question: In Outlook Express is there a "delete all" option for your
Inbox?

I then upgraded Netfetch and Messenger Pro to the latest versions. Do
I need to make any changes to them in the light of the changes I have
made to the information held by my ISP? - IMAP is not mentioned
anywhere.

Finally, now if I collect my e-mail on my Acorn it is still available
on my PC, which is nice, but does that mean it is in cyberspace for
ever?

Thanks

Barry

Dont have the latest Risc OS version, but mine had a network part which was
made available at an upgrade some years ago.
If you can have the option to use IMAP you can leave the emails on the
servers, but still delete any you want to, check your storage level (at 7GB
its unlikely you have used much of it yet).

There is a setting on the webmail, in options, to control whether emails are
deleted after fetching by POP3, the default is not to delete as they want
your emails on the server.
If your using IMAP on both platforms they remain on the server unless you
put them in the bin (auto enpties after 30 days.) but you have to setup the
imap client to use the Gmail bin (instructions on virginmedia help pages)

Senior Moment: highlight the first and the last to select everything
in between, then delete. Easy if you can see the whole list on one
screen; Senior Moment made me not think of it applying it to a list
more than 100 screens long.

Doesn't <Ctrl>A, <Ctrl>X work in Outlook mailboxes?

Ctrl-A, Delete should work (I think; I'm not near Outlook at the moment).
If not, I'm sure there's "Select All" in the context menu.
