You can do the same thing with a compound literal starting in C99:

#include <stdio.h>

void FOO(int *a, int *b) {
    printf("%d %d\n", *a, *b);
}

int main(void) {
    FOO(&(int){1}, &(int){2});
}

I suspect the extension predates compound literals.
