I made another attempt to get PDPCLIB to work
under VIO instead of requiring fullscreen.

This guy had the exact same problem in 1996:

but no-one seems to have answered him (or else
the replies weren't archived).

Anyway, during one of my experiments I managed
to crash ArcaOS 5.0.8:

I have attempted to create a logical keyboard,
but that isn't working under VIO (error 22
about PM), and in fullscreen it crashes ArcaOS
so I have paused before I try anything else.
