They probably have a wiki and all sorts of information on dealing with install glitches. They also probably have webforums where you can ask for help from people who know these distros very well. I'd consider a standard installation, rather than trying to install a live CD to disk. I've tried that a few times and always been disappointed in the results. Sounds frustrating as hell. Good luck.
