Perhaps I wasn't clear, or you didn't read anything else I've written. 
I use both Windows and Linux, and a lot of software I use runs equally 
on both.  I have two work machines - one XP, one Linux.  My home 
machines are all Linux.  But if I want to use Windows-only software on 
my Linux machines, which was the question here, I said I usually do so 
in a Windows virtual machine rather than using Wine.

For several reasons, I often prefer to run Windows software at the 
office in a Windows virtual machine on the Linux host, rather than 
natively on the XP machine.  But for general-purpose software like 
Thunderbird, I use whichever machine is most convenient at the time 
regardless of the OS.
