I stick to the physically larger caf pills ... 'Vivarin', Walgreens "Stay Awake", used to be able to get Natrol 'high caffeine', but not lately. They're easy to crack, then you can nibble little bits during the whole day. The other stuff kind of assumes you want a HUGE dose all at once. NOT so good, esp for old farts. Use it right and you'll still have low blood pressure and good kidney function. Go nuts and you'll mess things up. Caf is like any other drug in that respect. Anyway, three halves a day, 300mg, spread out in micro-doses. Keeps the brain sharp, energy up - but is not destructive. My BP systolic still averages 110 even at 70 years. Now as for the poor folks forced onto 'adhd' near-amphetamines as kids for 'convenience' ... I foresee a lot of REALLY bad outcomes to become manifest SOON now.

I think the exposure to a constantly conflicting data stream has a lot
to do with it.

Back in the '60s my friendly family doctor used to hand out scripts for Biphetamine 20s, aka Black Beauties. 10 mg of leveamphetamine, 10 of dextroamphetamine. That was good stuff. They cracked down on the diet pills only to have it reemerge with ADHD. I remember, late 60s and early 70s, when it seemed every housewife was popping dexidrine by the handful. Always hyped and shakey. "Diet Pills" so hubby would not run off with a younger rival. Thing was, after awhile, it'd mess up their brains so much hubby was desperate to run off with some more SANE rival :-) As for the latest brand names for speed ... people are beginning to find out THOSE are very bad too. On summer evenings there would be people sitting on the front steps waiting their turn at 11 PM. In the morning he made his hospital rounds and in his spare time would make house calls. iirc an office visit was $4 and netted two weeks worth of black beauties. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVCmrnOtzis Give me weed, whites, and wine and I'm willin'. My preferred wine was Gallo Hearty Burgundy in the gallon jug. 14% and the best buy based on pennies per proof gallon. When I talk to my ex we sometimes wonder how either of us got so old. She has had health problems since 12 and I was more or less crazy. When you're driving non-stop from upstate NY to St. Petersburg FL and a Volkswagen in front of you turns into a dragon with flaming red eyes it gets a bit strange.

I wasn't on anything, but on one marathon driving session
I knew it was time to pull over when I started hallucinating
trees falling across the road in front of me.
On the other hand, I defer to the master:
We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the
desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember
saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe
you should drive...." And suddenly there was a terrible
roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked
like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving
around the car, which was going about a hundred miles
an hour with the top down to Las Vegas.

She goes running for the shelter
Of a Mother's Little Helper
And it helps her on her way,
Gets her through her busy day.

The Dexies made them unbearable ... nervous wrecks. Many women over 30 develop an unbearable urge for carbs ... sweets and pasta and giant bags of crisps and worse. Seems a 'genetic fat bomb'. We now have GLP-1 ... evil effects report pending ... but before then it was amphetamines. They didn't really kill appetite, just made ya so weirded out that you forgot to eat. Bennies were more fun ... had/took a few once in a huge shopping mall at 70s xmas season. Navigating the packed mob became SO easy. Try the Fugs "Amphetamine Shriek" :-) TERRIBLE for the health alas. I'd pop an artery now at my age. DO remember the 60s/70s neighborhood moms ... speed freaks almost all. Daddy, they 100% depended on, was eyeing the younger gals at the office so they HAD to stay trim as possible no matter the price.

Well here I sit
All alone with a broken heart.
I took three bennies
And my semi-truck won't start.

I remember seeing "diet chocolates" under the brand name "Ayds".
Presumably they were laced with the stuff.
