It is technically correct Dutch, with a strong English accent, concerning a coffee which I can only recall from, well adverts ;) But then, freeze-dried coffee never was very succesful here.

Larger cultural shift maybe, or maybe it was the preferred writing method, one that took some of the 'art' out of writing ? Would the Declaration Of Independence have been as good if typed-up in Courier-12 ?

The Harvard CS50 courses are good. I watched the Python one to get up to speed on Python 3. I'd adapted my Python 2 but never got further than fixing print() and other specific problems. The TinyML series is also excellent. Get out of the technical areas at your own risk. THe son of the CEO at I company I worked for was a Harvard MBA. After driving a Boston runner's store into the ground, not an easy task at the height of the running craze, he came to work for us. Bankruptcy soon followed. To be fair over-expansion and the oil embargo helped. I don't think he liked me since my Audi was bigger than his Audi :).

Get out of the technical areas at your own risk. I deliberately waited until P3 got decently up to speed - figured it was useless to waste time/effort on an outgoing standard. I can understand P2, mostly know how to adapt most P2 to P3, but I was never 'adept' in P2. As for HAARVAARD ... USED to be good. THEN it went insanely 'woke'. Now I doubt it's in reality at all. > THe son of the CEO at I company I worked for was a Harvard MBA. Many MBA's, like "Computer Science" people, do NOT seem heavily grounded in practical reality. "Theory" far outranks "Truth".

In truth the Audi 100LS wasn't a very good car. After we split my ex traded it for a Rabbit which was a step up. I think she got $500 on the trade in. If the 100 was a POS the 80, Fox in the US, which dingbat drove was the POS Jr. Volkswagen was transitioning to putting the engine and drive train on the other end of the vehicle and had a learning curve. Unlike the Edsel Audi survived. Some of their models are sharp looking but once bitten.

VBA was suddenly replaced by Python. NOT the worst move by ESRI in my opinion. VBA was capable but More Clunky and TOO MICROSOFT. >>> THe son of the CEO at I company I worked for was a Harvard MBA. Unlike the Edsel Audi > survived. Some of their models are sharp looking but once bitten. Just read a best/worst-car of 2026 article. VW does NOT rate high, and neither do some of the Audi's. Chevy is pretty middlin' and Ford rates even lower. BEST bets are still Toyota/Honda. Oddly, Dodge RAM trucks figured well. Seems that Kia has put significant effort into making GOOD cars over the past few years and their A4 variants are worth considering (and cheap). Gonna HAVE to get a new(er) car soon ... my existing one keeps finding new places to leak coolant - and it's NOT cheap to get it fixed. Not THAT many miles, but YEARS instead. Seals go bad. May have to visit the Kia dealer ... looking for a small-ish sedan .......... Still wish I had my '69 Falcon ! Hell, you could climb head-first into the engine compartment and reach pretty much EVERYTHING ....... (Yea, CAN buy 'restored' versions - but likely 90% paint over body putty ......) Oh, Falcon, had a PUMP you could put down the oil tube and suck out all the bad old oil. Why go under the car and leak oil all over yourself eh ? :-) Used that on a few motorcycles too.

VBA was capable but More > Clunky and TOO MICROSOFT. Esri had their own scripting language Avenue that was used with ArcView 3. ArcView was replaced with ArcGIS in 2000 although they sometimes still referred to it as ArcView. Esri has recycled product names or come up with new names for products to keep people guessing. VBA became the new preferred scripting language for ArcGIS up until 10.2 in 2014 iirc. Python 2.7 was also used and became the language up until 10.9.1. THe transition to ArcGIS Pro dropped the entire ArcGIS 32 bit products and went to Python 3.8. All of those transitions were met with weeping and gnashing of teeth. Even ArcGIS 8 to ArcGIS 9 broke a lot of existing models. Jack Dangermond had made no secret that Esri was headed toward the clouds for years. I was surprised when I was doing a query when the pulldown for the scripting language still offered Avenue.

That's certainly how it's supposed to work* - unfortunately, cronyist grifters with an MBA have gotten very, very practiced at a specific blend of willful ignorance, denialism, and cultured shunning of the competent which has enabled their whole class of cretins to *flourish* in the last thirty years (if not longer.) * (And sometimes it does; Nik Suresh of https://ludic.mataroa.blog/ started a consultancy with the specific goal of being the ethical, competent alternative in his neighborhood, and by his report it's going pretty well. But he's taking a bite out of it in his specific major metro area, while the problem, unfortunately, is global-scale.) Essentially, we've allowed the creation of a business culture where the people at the top are almost totally insulated from the consequences of their decisions (unless they go overboard into breaking the law in a major way; and even that rarely counts 'til they stiff the tax-man.) The C-suite gets to just do whatever as long as they keep the share- holders happy in the moment (never mind if it screws the whole company in the long terms) and make important-sounding noises, and when things fall apart they go on their merry way and leave everyone else to suffer in the fallout. You can see this again and again in corporate Big Tech; look at, for example, Carly Fiorina, who pulled a "turnaround" with Lucent back in the late '90s - early '00s which was to a significant extent based in shady financial games and ultimately gutted the company; 130,000 people lost their jobs as a result, and Fiorina...went on to run the show at HP and was all geared up to put *them* in the toilet as well before being forced out, but ultimately got her comeuppance by...um, losing her bid for the GOP nomination in 2016 and having to fall back on being incredibly wealthy and getting public-speaking engagements. The bill always comes due eventually - but a certain class of people have gotten *real* good at making sure someone else is left holding the bag when it does.

It *doesn't* make sense - but it is, unfortunately, demonstrably the case. The real world doesn't operate according to an ideal model; human error and cultural factors are fully capable of driving businesses run by humans in a specific culture to do things that are Actually A Bad Idea. And since good managers may hire incompetents or grifters by mistake, but incompetent or grifting managers are basically guaranteed to hire more of the same, there's a specific kind of perverse selection at work here.

Politicians are generally the paid employees of various big biz interests. Been like that pretty much forever. When Jefferson became POTUS he was shocked at the depth and breadth of graft already entrenched in his beautiful 'perfect republic'. The only time politicians "do something" is when their kickbacks aren't seen as being worth the political risk. Of course then they get offered even BIGGER plain brown envelopes ... Remember all the nasty anti-trust stuff against Microsoft long back ? It happened because Bill was a nerd and didn't realize he had to grease the politicians. As soon as he did the whole affair kinda just faded away. >> Companies that don’t manage to do this, go out of business sooner or >> later. Biz management IS sometimes a sort of "club", as you imply. Like selects like selects like. These days they don't even HAVE to do very well, they can rake in the money while they're employed and get a golden or silver parachute after. Was reading a less-popular book by Machiavelli long back, "Discourses". In that book he EXPLAINS the advice seen in "Prince". Turns out that 'golden parachutes' were invented by the Romans. If a military commander loses a big battle they did not cut his head off, just either re-assigned him or put him on a pension. The reason - commanders afraid to lose a battle will be too conservative, won't dare to dare. Anyway, if you want good management then look to the smaller corps. The problem with those is that they are always at risk - hostile takeovers, govt punishment, poor tax picture, more trouble getting biz loans. Hard for the little chickens to fight off the big bad buzzards.

Ultimately however, Darwin ruls. Even industries supported by massive subsidies, like renewable energy, will in the end bankrupt the societies that employ then and allow their countries to be taken over by more successful ones. Its part of the cycle of nature. MBAS are like fungi, breaking down perfectly good companies and turning them into manure. -- "Socialist governments traditionally do make a financial mess. They always run out of other people's money. It's quite a characteristic of them" Margaret Thatcher

The real world doesn't operate according to an ideal model ... I don’t care about any “ideal model”; I care about the laws of economics. There is a principle that applies in the real world: “money talks”. Nobody is immune from this. Those who bring in the money get to talk.

A company that is 'steady state' - a cash cow essentially - is already where it needs to be. It needs no strategic management. Only if its market is set to disappear does it need to stir itself. -- The New Left are the people they warned you about.
