#1060 — Debian installer on KVM VM

FromTim Watts <tw@dionic.net>

SubjectDebian installer on KVM VM
Message-ID<nh4n98-0qt.ln1@squidward.dionic.net>
Hi,

Curious one:

Debian 6.0 installer locked up (just after printing "ETCD") before going
into the isolinux graphical splash when I tried to install it on a
KVM hypervisor based virtual machine.

Installed fine under QEMU (slowly!). Transferred the disk image back to the
KVM based VM and it booted fine and, as expected, ran rather better.

Any idea what could be upsetting KVM in the installer stage? I tried various
virtual graphics cards and fiddled with a number of other things.

Cheers

Tim

Maybe you should submit a bug or see if one has been reported for
debian-installer running under KVM. Have you tried installing earlier
versions of Debian in the same virtual machine?

Sometimes the signs say "Speed Kills" and other times they say "Speed
Cameras". How does it do that?

Yep - could be good to try 5.0 and if that breaks, Fedora or something.

It feels like it is something to do with the splash graphic in VGA mode, but
that might be a red herring.

Cheers
