#1759 — Notebook freezes when on battery

Hi,
I am using Ubuntu 11.04 x64 with the default Desktop and I have the
following problem: As soon as I take out my power cable and my notebook
runs on battery, it freezes within ten seconds. Then, I can't use my
mouse any more. Putting the cable back in doesn't work, so I have to
"hard shutdown" and reboot.
Do you know what could cause that behaviour?

Thanks,
Anton

Is the battery any good?

Perhaps the voltage drops substantially

Actually, I don't think its a problem of the battery. At least the
battery worked with Fedora a couple of months ago while it hasn't been
working with ubuntu since 9.10, I think... I recently installed the
newest ubuntu and was reminded about that problem.
