A PNG file is not a text file.

The file needs to be created from the last data on
demand, which is why you need cgi-bin.

You really have not thought this through ...

Did you even bother to look at the multitude of graphs
(including temperature monitoring) that rrdtool can produced
on the web site link I provided?
