A USB device should be noticed and "activated", but the release has to know about it. I could never get one CompactFlash card reader going, I assume because it was too new for the version of Slackware that I was using at the time. But, if you are talking about USB memory devices, that's a different thing. I suppose in KDE there may be something to automatically mount that memory device, but out of the box console it's not going to do that. At the very least, you have to tell /etc/fstab to automatically mount it. Michael
