"Safest" on Linux usually means sticking to the software in your distro's package repo. Although I agree it can be difficult to browse and compare software in package repos directly if you don't know exactly what you're looking for, so these other websites are still useful: https://directory.fsf.org/wiki/Main_Page https://www.linuxlinks.com (Look under "Best Free Software") There are lots of very old programs here. I usually prefer simple older Linux software designs, so looking for things here then Web searching for currently maintained versions/derivatives sometimes works better for me than wading through all the bloatware people make these days. That's probably just me though. http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/ Browse the database here (Javascript required): https://xteddy.org/lsm -- __ __ #_ < |\| |< _#
