Maybe you don't, and a well-designed application should respect that - but different windows arranging themselves in a saved configuration is an *extremely* well-known design pattern for GUI applications, and any new system failing to realize that (or, worse, deciding that You Don't Need That and refusing to provide for it out of some demented dogma) is just braindead and broken-as-designed. When a self-styled replacement for an existing system elects to break with the behavior of the system it aims to replace, it should not come as a shock that it gets significant pushback.
