I worked on an AmigaOS where that was the condition of operation.
The AmigaOS was designed pre-Internet and had no memory protection
either. You did not sign in you just booted up originally from floppies and
if you could find the cash buy a SCSI host Card and learn to do SCSI 50 pin
termination.
I learned a lot and it was a lot of fun but I had the chance and changed
to Linux Mandriva in 2006.
