USB is NOT a network and is not really meant for peer-to-peer
connections (computer to computer).

Networking is the *proper* way to do this.  (The only *other* way is
with an RS232 serial cable (using a "null modem" cable, but RS232 serial
ports are becoming rare on new PCs...)
