Take for example Ubuntu 10.4 or 11.04. By my standards, these are pretty easy to use for home users. I know several people that have installed this for their parents, and the parents stop complaining about everyday problems that they usually had in Windows. It is even easy for them to install new programs using the Ubuntu Software Center, just click around and look at interesting applications, and click install. So then I ask you. Comparing to Ubuntu: What will your distribution do better, to make your distribution less complicated and easier to use for home using? -> What is your selling point? This is really important to know before you even start. Also, what distribution will you be building it upon? You should not try to start a new distribution from scratch, since you get a lot of free security updates, etc from debian/redhat/etc for free, if you build upon their existing packaging system etc. Wihtout this, you need a lot more people helping you, and soon. Or else you will be prone to having a lot of security problems, and slow development. It's not easy creating an entire distribution on your own. There is a lot of hours behind a distribution. Just my tips for you. I'm very interested in knowing if you already have all this sorted out, so please respond! Maybe someone here is interested in your project. Regards, Håkon Nessjøen
