No, it's not, I assure you. I pick up the mouse and move it 4K pixels,
even as my Wrist/Palm rests on the mouse pad, because:

My Thumb holds the left side of the mouse, brushing the pad.
My Pinky holds the right side of the mouse, brushing the pad.
My Ring Finger rests on the (BigAss) gShfit button.

I use _all of the 39 buttons, in _many apps, everyday, all day;
not one button is wasted. It's Muscle Memory now.

I'm a programmer but gamers enjoy it too;
games are more enjoyable when you don't need a keyboard|controller.
Ideally, you'd map the game's keys to the ones on the mouse.

The g600 mouse is Windows only, no Mac or Linux drivers.
I use complex Lua scripts to do things Mac/Linux hasn't imagined; to wit:

ShiftClick and AltShiftClick without touching the keyboard.

gShift Middle(Wheel)Click to answer the phone.
gShift RightClick to inspect an HTML element in the DOM editor.
gShift LeftClick to move a post to the Clipboard ( from VisualStudio2017 ).

Oh this is a better photo. Yours is a lot like the 3D connexion. It's
easy to miss that it has three buttons since they are part of the
overall shape. I didn't notice it. Still, I don't like all those other
buttons being there. Ideally I'd like it just to be three buttons on the
surface and the wheel and nothing else if possible. The 3D connexion is
closer to that than yours. Where my thumb goes, is almost nothing. Just
two more buttons, but since the side is so large I never accidentally
hit those side buttons. If I press them at all it's because I intended
to, which I can tell you was not the case until this mouse came along.
On all the smaller mice I had, I would accidentally hit those side
buttons so often I'd want to throw the mouse out a window.

Absolutely a fail for what I would want. The three main buttons need to
be first-class citizens on the mouse.

http://imgur.com/CjNWK5O
This is pretty much the original way I had it back in the late 80's
starting with the Amiga. It would be another ten years or more and until
around 1999 that I would have something like again with Sun
Microsystems.

http://imgur.com/fktHKr4
And then several years ago I found the IBM mouse pictures here in the
middle. But having got used to the wheel I wasn't ready to give that up
for the middle button even though this was one of the only mice I'd
found in years to be close to what I once had.

The same image with the 3D Connexion mouse on the left shows all three
buttons are very much equals even though there is indeed a wheel. First
mouse I've had in almost 20 years that brings me back to the time when
we had GREAT mice and not this crap we have now.

But it's not just the mouse. I had not used an X Window system until a
little less that four years ago. The focus functions put the whole thing
back into perspective. There was a feel to the desktop that I haven't
felt since the 90s.

Hard to get back to where it was since the UI itself has a different
feel to it. I had CDE and just X way way back in the days. I remember
once having access to an OS/2 box running X which was connected to UNIX.
This way back in the 486 days. Don't remember much about it. I remember
the hummingbird was part of the logo. Little fragments like that.

It looks a lot like the two-button mouse IBM provided with the IBM PS/1
I got back in 1991.

Generic-looking mice for the last two but I imagine that the first one
is the most used.

The 3D connexion is the mouse I mostly use now. Unless I am completely
mobile in which case I use the one on the right or the touch pad.

OK, I have to say while I would be unlikely to use it I can see where having
such a meta-key could be cool... and it is not, as far as I know, available
on the tools I have shown. Cool!

Map F3 to mouse button 1:

xmodmap -e "keycode 69 = Pointer_Button1"

toggle on and off with:

xkbset m
xkbset -m

You would pick F3, which is a key I frequently use for

I'll just use F1.

Map F5-F10 to shifted 5-10 for this stuff:
x*y^(1/5)+a*(b+y)+c%d

anon@lowtide:~$ cat mathmap
#!/bin/bash
xmodmap -e 'keycode 71 = percent'
xmodmap -e 'keycode 72 = asciicircum'
xmodmap -e 'keycode 73 = ampersand'
xmodmap -e 'keycode 74 = asterisk'
xmodmap -e 'keycode 75 = parenleft'
xmodmap -e 'keycode 76 = parenright'
anon@lowtide:~$

Return to normal:

anon@lowtide:~$ cat mathunmap
#!/bin/bash
setxkbmap -layout us
anon@lowtide:~$

That's a good idea.

I'm much too lazy to research all this stuff myself so
I was hoping that someone else would do it for me.

But looking at the available keycodes with "xmodmap -pke"
it seems that there are oodles of unassigned keys. This
means it would be possible to include far more keys,
including programmable keys, into a single keyboard device
(as opposed to several separate devices).

A lot of those extra keys could be mapped into a unicode
sequence to allow entry of UTF-8 characters with a single
keystroke and without having to reference any code chart.

Now let someone else (not me) get the draftsman and design
engineers together to create the "blueprints" to then send
to a derelict factory in China for mass production.

Too lazy to run xev. That's pretty bad.

I am surprised common Linux DEs do not have such things built in. Here is
macOS with USB Overdrive installed:

Let me guess: It is located in your moms house. And normal people call it
"basement"
