He's a proven liar. Just like Rex. He made a claim so let's see him back it
up.

It's times like this that the safety of hiding behind is kill-files comes in
very handy. He can make up all sorts of idiotic claims and lies and then
pretend he doesn't see people calling him on his bullshit.

That explains why the trolls are clocking in with web hits and lies.
What micoshaft can't lie about, the trolls can lie to cover up.
Its their job.

If Linux market share is greater than 7%, then it is declared a
mainstream OS and every bank, school, company and government
department, retailer, factory owner producing PC is entitled to specify
it and support it without any form of legal challenge.
Previously micoshaft could use its goons and asstroturfers
to attack governments and companies. Now if they tried it,
they can be prosecuted for unethical business practices by anyone
selling Linux and make it stick with huge damages payola.

Yup. No doubt they're frothing, & trying to dispute M$'s *own* figures
to the SEC. So if M$ was lying, perhaps *they* (the wintrolls) should
inform the SEC about the company *they* supposedly support.
They must also have missed the bit about M$ hiring an Open Source
Desktop Strategy Czar to lead Microsoft’s global desktop competitive
strategy regarding open source competitors.
Really, are they going to that expense if Linux *was* only at 1%!
Maybe some of these wintrolls are some of the 5,000 employees M$ laid
off due to (what M$ themselves blame as) Open Source success.

In any event these wintrolls must be an embarressment to the company
they purport to support.

On the desktop it's just an amateurish counterculture product.

On servers it's definitely mainstream.

I agree.
Mainstream in embedded devices as well only most people don't know, or

So does my Sony plasma TV.

This is the classic Linux loon bob and weave.

They try to claim that Linux isn't under the same constraints as say
commercial products, which is true.

But at the same time, their model of zero accountability has obviously
failed.

Being free for 20+ years with a market share of 1 percent of the desktop
and falling is really nothing to be proud of.

In fact, it goes to further prove what a dismal failure desktop Linux
has been.

Maybe that's why so many Linux advocates seem to be miserable people?

Following a loser for 20 years has got to take it's toll.

It wouldn't be good - if it were true :-)

I don't think it's dropped at all, hadron.
I think that the "problem" is that you (and others here) are perhaps more
used to seeing statistics from WebApplications than you are from
StatCounter.

They work in quite different ways.

I prefer StatCounter myself, because they give you "raw" data.
The disadvantage though is that their "average", from which they get their
"worldwide" figure, is just that - and it's very dependent on the number of
contributing sites from each country. For example, their sample size from
the U.K. is about the same as their sample size from China and India
combined!
Its "worldwide" figure is therefore (imo) a bit suspect. Its figures for
North America and its figures for Europe though can be quite illuminating.

By contrast, NetApplications "factors" (weights) figures from each country,
depending in the estimated "Internet Population" of each country to produce
its Worldwide figure. If you don't want to go into things too deeply, it's
probably the better rough-and-ready guess at worldwide figures.

I think it's important though not to mix the two!

Dear God!
I make it that there was precisely 39 seconds between my post and this
response.
Never mind that the response is typical hadron rubbish - let's remember what
Samuel Johnson said when comparing women preaching with a dog walking on its
hind legs:
"It is not done well; but you are surprised to find it done at all"!

Thirty nine seconds!
 - to receive, read, digest, compose and type a reply, and send!
I take my hat off to you hadron, and in 39 seconds it would be quite
unrealistic of me to expect any sense from you....
... though come to think, in 39 hours it would be unrealistic of me to
expect any sense from you.... but 39 seconds is remarkable nonetheless!
