Me "fucked?" Ha, ha, ha, ha! That's an impossibility!

I can simply edit my xorg.config file thusly:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse1"
...
Option "DragLockButtons" "2"
...
EndSection

Now, my middle mouse button behaves as a "meta key".
If I press it, the next button that is pressed will
become locked. I can therefore drag lock at will.

However, this will also prevent the use of my middle
button for any other purpose.

But I can just get a mouse with a few more buttons.

Oh. That definitely weakens this as a tool.

Serious question: are there ANY tools for Linux that allow you to set mouse
buttons and the like by program? It is an amazingly powerful feature once
you set it up... though of course it has to be set up. It is the type of
thing I would expect to NOT see for macOS but to see on Linux... though with
Linux I would not expect the setup to be as easy:

That's just a 2-button + wheel mouse with an array of thumb buttons.
Not at all what I wanted. Variations of that format are all over
the place. What I wanted (and get with the cadmouse) is a traditional
3-button mouse which also has a wheel.

I cannot imagine why I would want as many buttons as Jeff shows... for me
having next and previous buttons which I can configure per program, as well
as configuring the middle button to do as I want is very important. I also
have some other buttons but they are not as big of a deal for me... still
nice to have.

And all of this is pretty easy to set up (though I do mention some areas
where it could be better): <https://youtu.be/V791-XhhOxY>.

As far as I know there is nothing like that on Linux... but would love to be
proved wrong.

How about configuring them per-application? I know there are drivers that do
that, but curious if you use it that way.

Fair enough. Thanks.

For me that is a must-have feature. Even if the native driver on my OS did
not support that there are multiple third party drivers which would.

My eldest has one of those gizmos, maybe the same thing as this one
(looks real similar). He says he likes the way it feels.

There's 3 BIG buttons: Pointer, Middle and Ring Fingers.
My thumb and pinky are on the mouse pad.
It super easy to set them to do whatever, and/or nothing.

Ah, ok. It was not obvious from your photo. Still don't care for having
keyboard on the side of my mouse, but that does satisfy my requirements
of 3 full-size buttons plus the wheel. I don't know why Logitech doesn't
just go ahead and put out a reasonably priced ($10) 3-button + wheel mouse.
The would sell a boatload of them to Linux users.

$39 ( for the g600 ) is too much ?

I programmed ( and use ) every single one of the 39 buttons,
all day, everyday... not one of them doesn't get used a lot.

Most of the time, I don't use the keyboard at all.
Often, I use a virtual keyboard instead.

Maybe not too much for that particular mouse, but a much
simpler mouse with just 3-buttons and a wheel should not
go for more that $10-12 at most. But with nobody making
them, they could probably command double that price.
