The most rabid "advocates" in the world can't even get the people closest to them to use the hobbyware, so why the fsck should anyone listen to them? chrisv Apr 2010: "...Home Premium OEM is available for $100 online... My daughter runs it..." Gidget Dec 2010: "When I can fix my wife's Mac..." Gidget Jun 2011: "...it was for my son's Mac..." Creepy Chris Ahlstrom Jul 2007: "[my daughter] fucks it [Windows] up on a regular basis, but she's kinda stuck on it, since that's all the law school will support." Creepy Chris Ahlstrom Jan 2008: his domineering wife yelled "Heel geek!" at his puppy-face and in a stern voice commanded him to keep Windows and MS Office on her system: "...she ended it by yelling (well, almost yelling) I WANT WINDOWS!!!!" Creepy Chris Ahlstrom Jun 2011: his bro-in-law actually promotes Windows on Facebook. LMAO! Did you know that Creepy? http://www.facebook.com/markparker17 Marti Jun 2011: his brother runs Windows and MS PowerPoint and Flash and proprietary audio programs. http://www.michelvanlin.nl/ Peter Kohlmann Apr 2010: "I bought a Macbook for my son... My daughter uses windows..." Kari Laine Jun 2011: I have three kids... All them use Windows mainly." Richard Rasker Sep 2010: "My father has been using Macs for well over a decade now..." Handover Phist: "I've tested Ubuntu and My wife and son (NOT linux users!) have had no problem adjusting to using it." rapskat 2002: "I only wish my wife wasn't so winwashed, I'd love to convert her comp (Win2k pro)... she's adamant that she wants winslows" TomB Oct 2010: "We're using GNU/Linux exclusively at home, and we all can do pretty much anything we want with it." TomB Jun 2011: "My daughter's iPad arrived today..." JEDIDIAH Jun 2011: wife uses Windows or Mac, he won't confirm which. She does not run Linux. I have been quite clear about this in the past: Apple vendor lock.
Although Android seems set to undo that bit.
Still it's terribly ironic that Apple works so hard to make the world
safe for Microsoft products and helps to push sales of newer versions of
monopolyware.

The first thing I usually ask is, "do you play games?" If they, yes, then I tell them they probably want to stay with Windows, or at least dual- boot. The next question I ask is, "are you married to M$ Office." If yes, then basically the same answer, though I mention they could also run a virtual machine under Linux or, depending on their version of M$ Office, run it under Crossover or vanilla Wine. Otherwise, if they're like a lot of people who share pictures, "social network," browse the web and use email, there's absolutely no reason why Linux wouldn't do the job *better* without the malware crap involved with using Windows. -- RonB Registered Linux User #498581 CentOS 5.6 or VectorLinux Deluxe 6.0 or Linux Mint 10
