Even normal sc gives you 702 columns x 32K rows. And with a hacked sc, nothing says you have to make it 2M x 12M and make it eat into swap. With a default allocation of 30 columns x 100 rows, increasing either to the new max only expands in that direction, and it's usable. For instance, I can easily work with a 2 million row sheet x default 30 columns, or with 12 million columns x default 100 rows. It's called flexibility.
