Well, they insist on having a phone number for verification. So the 
accounts that are not installed on a phone are also associated to a 
phone, which is the same number as the smartphone. Surely they see the 
same number listed in a number of accounts.

I think they want a smartphone, not a landline. Not SMS capable, usually.
