SubjectAnother Windows 10 Update Disaster in the making.
Message-ID<dvae0gFo3ffU1@mid.individual.net>
OS Name	Microsoft Windows 10 Home
Version	10.0.10240 Build 10240
Other OS Description Not Available
OS Manufacturer	Microsoft Corporation

I am running on my laptop (OS info above) because my desk-top is in the
shop (see Message-ID <dute1hFkauaU1@mid.individual.net>), (Word from
the shop is the disk is destroyed--they want me to buy a new computer
because that disk is only three months old. Not buying anymore Windows
OS computers. They are going to replace the disk again.)

Starting several days ago, it what in retrospect looks a lot like the
final minutes of my desk-top, my lap-top wants to run Windows Update and
I am now thinking that it thinks I am not on 10! as opposed to a patch
update.

In a power-up boot yesterday something Windows Update-ish ran in spite
of my scheduling it as far into the future as it would let me.

Does anybody know a way to get somebody's attention at Microsoft without
waiting many hours on-queue with credit card in hand? A newsgroup of a
"forum" that isn't just spam, trolls, and bullsheet?

I would really just like to to my work.

If you run windows on your computer, then the fact is that you do not
own your computer, instead microsoft owns the computer and can do
anything they damn well please.

Your correct solution in this situation is to remove windows from your
computer, only then will you be able to own your computer again.

And if you don't want Mak Shuttlecraft "I'm root" to own your
computer, go for Debian, or even PCLinuxOS.

Try posting your question to "alt.comp.os.windows-10".

Despite the inevitable troll postings endemic to every news group, there
are plenty of helpful contributors who seem to go out of their way to be
helpful. One of the better ones, who goes by the name of
paul<nospam@needed.com>, often provides very comprehensive and helpful
follow ups despite being no fan of Microsoft (and therefore, no fool
imho).

About a week ago my Win7 update routine once more offered an update to
Win10.
I selected the No option No and it had another question: if this was a
definite refusal, Yes!
Then came the message I would no longer be bothered and just for my
information the offer for a free 'upgrade' was ending on the 29th.
