Title: Questions About Cloud Efficacy Emerge from European IT Survey

[image 1]These days, it seems like everyone under the sun offers some kind of
cloud computing service or product. In Europe, though, there are some
indications that cloud-focused vendors are less than easy to deal with. In
particular, there are concerns about migrating applications to the cloud.

A new report from NTT Com finds that two in five managers find moving complex
applications to the cloud too difficult.  The report, called Cloud Reality
Check 2015, [2]surveyed almost 1,600 ICT decision makers in the U.K., U.S.A.,
France, Germany, Spain and the Benelux region, also established that 41 per
cent of respondents said dealing with cloud vendors is difficult.

Quite a lot of the vendors characterized moving apps to the cloud as "more
trouble than it's worth." And, almost 40 percent said that cloud deployments
were not living up to the hype behind them.

The negative findings in Europe are at odds with some other surveys.
RightScale's 2015 State of the Cloud report[3], always one of the more
definitive barometers, found that enterprise central IT teams are now making
the majority of cloud spending decisions and taking the lead to broker cloud
services to their organization. And it found that 93 percent of organizations
surveyed are running cloud applications or experimenting with
infrastructure-as-a-service.

Respondents to RightScale's survey reported minimal changes in adoption of
private cloud technologies from 2014.

Despite some of the negative findings in the NTT Com survey, many IT managers
overseeing cloud deployments did report that they will increase spending going
forward. Over a fifth of them said that their budgets for the cloud will rise
from 57 per cent in 2015 to 77 per cent in 2018.
