I realized the law is like a river in the wilderness. A lay person is like a beginning hiker who comes to the river and to his dismay realizes the nearest bridge is ten kilometers away. A lawyer is like an experienced hiker who sees that the river is steep in some places and shallow in other places and finds a spot nearby where you can cross and only get your feet wet. The fact something is illegal doesn't carry much weight with the pros. The question is, what are the probable consequences of my choices and how do I make sure the outcome is to my optimal benefit?
