I'd generally be sympathetic to your argument if it weren't for
Android, which instead did what Apple was "unable" to do - and that
says to me that Apple was rather unwilling to do it. Case in point:
	* you can plug an Android device into a computer and it shows up as
file storage, and you can use Apple finder or Windows Explorer or
whatever to add and subtract files. I've used this to add music and a
movie or two to my tablet before a long flight.

	* you can download several good file managers for Android. I use one
that is very innovative (offers summaries of file storage usage, etc.)

Apple again assumed that its users are not savvy enough to handle this
kind of thin; that they prefer to simply stream music from the cloud
rather than onload and offload files to ther device, and prefer to
download/upload to Dropbox (thereby paying for Dropbox to manage
backups etc.) rather than manage files directly themselves via exposure
to and knowledge of the file system.

It may have been a push of the traditional sort, but to a lot of us it
seems like a limitation.

Remember when Windows File Explorer was all the rage because users
weren't savvy enough to manipulate files using cp, dir, and mv, and the
like? Now cloud storage is all the rage because users aren't savvy
enough to use File Explorer. Progress!
