Not as much as in the old days, before they started to filter the 
content in newsgroups, but still from time to time you see some, mainly 
when someone replies to the spam.
Then there is the problem with some jerks who decides to include 
irrelevant groups in the middle of a thread, just google on "Good Guy" 
and you will see a really annoying ms-windows-troll polluting the net 
like Trump will do with the world.
I do not think those spammers would be easy to exclude in an alternative 
system, it may look trivial, but they do adapt.
