I feel very much the same, although I do have to live in the browser to a certain extent due to work. =( But in terms of usenet, rss, email, and downloading news articles from bbc and other web sites, that has all moved into alpine for me and works beautifully. For me alpine strikes the perfect balance between being easy to setup, while at the same time having enough features and integration possibilities to be very flexible and useful. I also get a kick out of comparing cpu and memory usage with alpine compared with my trusty old thunderbird which I used for about 20 years or so.
