so, in irb
 require 'shoes'

which produces 

Sorry, this gem currently does nothing. Team Shoes is working on Gemifying Shoes, and this is just a placeholder until then.

should have added Linux Slackware, ruby 1.9.3p194 (2012-04-20 revision 35410) [x86_64-linux]
