Once you have destroyed a widget you can no longer access its data:

>>> import tkinter as tk
>>> root = tk.Tk()
>>> text = tk.Text(root)
>>> text.pack()
>>> text.get("1.0", "end")
'\n'
>>> text.destroy()
>>> text.get("1.0", "end")
