You could try replacing "reply.set_payload('\n'.join(body_lines) + '\n')"
by "reply.set_payload(('\n'.join(body_lines) + '\n').encode('utf-8'))",
i.e. you would not pass in a unicode payload but an "utf-8" encode
"str" payload.
