If you want

> def butContinue():
>     dbUser = entryName.get()
>     pWord =  entryPWord.get()

to change the global dbUser and pWord you need to declare them as global 
explicitly:

> def butContinue():
      global dbUser, pWord
>     dbUser = entryName.get()
>     pWord =  entryPWord.get()
