Instead of "\S" I'd recommend using "[^\]]", or using a lazy repetition
"\S+?".

You'll also need to handle the space before the "=" in line3.

valid_line = 
re.compile(r'^\[(\[^\]]+)\]\[(\[^\]]+)\](?:\s+|\[(\[^\]]+)\])\s*=|\s+[\d\[\']+.*$')
