and at the bottom, enter your email address in the box after
"To unsubscribe from Python-list, get a password reminder, or change 
your subscription options enter your subscription email address: "

One can selectively read python-list as a newsgroup at news.gmane.org 
either through the web interface or by 'subscribing' in a news reader. 
Most modern email programs, such as Thunderbird, include a news reader.
