Notes are never normative.  It is one thing to write that in a specification 
for a markup language.  It is quite another to consider the implications to 
DOM implementations, and to the interoperability and efficiency of DOM 
scripting.  You learn that the hard way when you do DOM scripting as a 
professional Web developer.
