Dennis Ritchie, whose work creating the C programming language and the Unix operating system became the cornerstone of today’s modern world of computing, has died. He was 70. Ritchie’s death was announced Wednesday in a staff memo from Jeong Kim, president of Bell Labs, where Ritchie worked from 1967 to 2007. <http://blog.sfgate.com/techchron/2011/10/13/dennis-ritchie-computer-pioneer-dies-at-70/?tsp=1>

This applies to browsers, services, editors... It is inexcusable to punish the user by requiring some elaborate sequence to atone, e.g. open the task editor, find and kill some processes.

Perhaps they *may* not, according to some rule or regulation, but they *can*. >>> The best answer today may not be the best answer tomorrow. I wouldn't. At least, if you mean "best possible reply that someone could make here and now", rather than "best possible reply that we can imagine someone making". It seems rather nihilistic to adopt the former definition. "How did the universe begin?", "We don't know.", and there's an answer! tom --
