Oracle has getting a lot of attacks.
"A close look at how Oracle installs deceptive software with Java
updates"
http://www.zdnet.com/a-close-look-at-how-oracle-installs-deceptive-software-with-java-updates-7000010038/?s_cid=e539
I can fathom how a software like Java could end up in the hands of a
company like Oracle...

They could put it in Oracle Java for Linux if they wanted to (I don't know if they actually have so). But IBM Java for Linux, OpenJDK for Linux, GCJ etc. are not under Oracles control (they do have some heavy influence on OpenJDK, but ...). Arne

81% to 61% sure don't sound healthy...
Java is dying. Period.
Fact is 90+% of home users will never miss Java once they do the smart
thing and uninstall it. The web sites and software that use *will*
change. Libre Office is looking to dump Java even now...

Indeed.
I appreciate your not jumping on my error, 66% not 61% is what I should
have posted...
When Homeland Security/CERT start posting recommendations and
instructions for removing Java you know your product is in trouble.
Additionally, at least one major software outfit, Libre Office, has
announced their intentions to scrap Java in favor of another solution.
As it is, only the DB portion of LO relies on Java...

You can't use the database and a few other things, but the rest is working. Why someone would bother I don't understand (it is just a few hundred MB of disk space). But it is certainly doable. Arne
