And as an adult, has the option of seeking treatment.

I have no idea why you would immediately jump to the conclusion that 
this particular person is an emotionally damaged child abuse victim, but 
the fact is that even in that extreme example, no one here would be 
doing them any favors by enabling their counter-productive behavior.
