The key words in my post was really "just as well." Of course I use
for-each, while and do loops - because in them I see a benefit. I
don't see any benefit in +=, so I don't use it.- 

It's not a "rule" I have -- I have no problem with other people using
them and I'll use them if I ever come across a situation where there's
an advantage to them. So far, I haven't seen any reason to use
them. It's the same reason why I don't use octal notation in my Java
code.
