I think that article is too much tabloid style.

If MS put out a newer GUI framework using HTML5/CSS/JS then it may make
XAML legacy it will not make .NET in general legacy.

I doubt that even MS at this time knows really what they will do. But 
eventually they will make a decision.

And maybe the above will then become
    VB6 ->  C# win forms ->  C# WPF -> C# XYZ
or
    VB6 ->  C# win forms ->  C# WPF -> ABC XYZ
