He's using GG. GG uses Quoted Printable encoding if it finds a reason to
do so, which seems to include the 8-bit character ø in your name, and
also using "=" to break too long lines for transmission. Like this:

I notice that the guy who complained had the exact same thing happen in his=
 posts, so I don't take the complaint at all seriously.

But I have seen earlier GG posts from Lew with long lines and no QP
encoding.
