Two dimensional array?

public class Qht {
   private Piece[][] conf;

   public Qht( int m, int n ) {
     conf = new Piece[m][];
     for( int i = 0; i < m; i++ )  // just wrote "that loop" again
     {
       conf[i] = new Piece[n];
     }
   }
   // rest of class here...
}
