The JDK is kinda irrelevant to plugins. I'm not sure but I think the browsers have disable the Java 7 plugin due to a serious security flaw in that particular version. My browser insists on using the Java 6 plugin. I'd suggest you download the Java 6 JRE. That should allow to install the plugin.
