I'm not really sure where else to get an opinion on this topic, which is not strictly about Java programming. If you know of a better place I am open to suggestions. If you do not know of a better place please accept my apologies for disturbing you and posting it here. I'm looking for a new job. A number of places are "contract to hire". Typically 6 months on contract, then hired. I've never done that type of job before. My concern is that I will end up looking for work again in 6 moths to a year. The places that I have talked to told me that companies do this to avoid some head hunter fees and some other fees. My suspicion is that they do it to get rid of an employee who they feel lukewarm about with less less expense ( do contract to hire people get unemployment if it doesn't work out ). All of the headhunters I have talked to have told me that the companies they are selling for usually hire permanently and this just a way of saving some money. I realize that they are trying to sell me something and that may just be a pitch. Any opinions. What is the real deal with "contract to hire" positions.....or is there one? Is it the case that each company or job is different with no general trends? Thanks in advance for any information or even a lack of information without a Usenet scolding for posting this question here.
