This was the top result when searching why there is no update tab in the control panel so I thought I would supply an answer... Java isn't so smart at knowing when both 64bit and 32bit are installed and I found I often need to check BOTH control panels. http://superuser.com/questions/275700/java-control-panel-does-not-show-update-tab-on-windows-7-x64 Control Panel\Java -> no update tab C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javacpl.exe -> no update tab C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\javacpl.exe -> finally an update tab!
