I don't. This is because, whenever my swing applications become 
unresponsive to user input for a while, I know I've done something 
time-consuming on the EDT, go looking for that, and fix it by running it 
in a separate thread.

This probably reflects the relative numbers of people using the 
conventional approach and "spin". In which case, if you need support, 
I'd consider that when selecting which approach to use.
