The information supplied is nice. However I think the information about
the linux setup is pessimistic.
Using a 64-bit Ubuntu with modem-manager running I only need to do this:
1. connect the board, a device with an obvious name appears in the
   /dev tree
2. Make a symbolic link to /dev/mps430 or some such.
3. Tell Kermit to use that line.

Interestingly there is no need to adjust the baudrate. On the contrary
it seems impossible to wreck the connection by making a wrong line
adjustment. This is how USB should work.

A lack of active discouragement or a half-hearted endorsement would be
fine. TI may not want to piss off the companies that earn their living
with supplying tools.
