Yesterday I visited the annual Silicon Valley Forth Interest Group Forth Day - on Google Hangout, of course.

I listened to an interesting presentation: "Kestrel-2 - Lessons Learned"
Does anybody know something about this project?

Listening to this presentation brought a new insight to me.
Up to now I thought it doesn't make sense to design my own computer to be run on Forth, because production would be too expensive, and using a PC as a base would be too complicated to work with.

But now, with Windows 8 at the horizon showing the end of the development word as we know it, a total new opportunity is there since a while: The DIY community again, stronger than ever!

A computer kit can be designed to be affordable and easy to program, a Dream Machine!

History moves in spirals - now we are at the same point as we have been forty years ago, but now with better hardware and with all our experience.
That's a great idea to look at the Renaissance of DIY that way - there is no huge manufacturing plant needed. Everybody can build his own computer at his home desk!

I guess everything will be easier with own hardware than with using a PC !
