But some of us need to *maintain* systems that compile millions
of lines of *proprietary* source. The better our standards are,
the more likely it is that code will be ported. There considerable
evidence for this after ANS was released. A recent Forth200x
meeting discussion indicated that it could take 20 years to
remove a feature completely from a standard. It can certainly
take ten years to remove a feature from an implementation.
