So we rip out stdbool.h. And if someone writes code like
bool b = ptr;
int x = b/2;
if (x)
launchnuclearmissile();
the bug will not be triggered. And this could happen. There is
definitely a case for doing that.
But now it won't interpret any code which uses bool. So I don't think
that if we submitted it as a fix it would be accepted. But the project
is abandoned anyway.
But with no incorrect integer promotions no legal C scripts would fail
to be interpreted. Just buggy scripts which relied on long being wider
than int.
It's unlikely that those two are the only cases in which it can be
coaxed into wrong behaviour as opposed to refusing to interpret a legal
script. All instances need to be removed if the underlying issue is to
go away.

I once had this idea of using GNU m4 as a preprocessor for an SQL dump so that the same file could be loaded into both MySQL and SQLite, just by changing some command- line options. The result worked, but was very slow. I had a look at the m4 source code, and was quite surprised to discover that it used standard C-library strings.

As long as malloc is used just for memory allocations at startup, it all works fine.

Parenthesis clutter seems to be a common affliction among C programmers.
Why not just keep the docs handy, so you can check the precedences if in
doubt?

*Some* of the precedence rules are sufficiently obvious that parentheses
aren't needed. I feel free to write `a = b + c`, not `a = (b + c)`.
I even feel free to write `x + y * z`, not `x + `y * z` (or I might
write `x + y*z`).
But C has a *lot* of precedence levels, and they're not all obvious.
If I see `a | b ^ c`, I'm not likely to remember off the top of my head
that ^ binds more tightly than |. Once I've taken the time to look it
up, I'll know that the expression is equivalent to `a | (b ^ c)`, but I
still won't be completely certain that the author meant it that way.
If you write `a = (b + c)`, the parentheses are clutter. If you write
`a | (b ^ c)`, IMHO they are not clutter.

Every serious C developer should know all the operator precedence
relationships without having to look them up.
In cases where it is still felt necessary to indicate how different
operators parse with respect to one another, it's better to do that
using spacing than with parentheses, as for example
a | b^c
or
alpha | beta ^ gamma
